I believe in all the things in the Articles of the Christian Faith…
ARTICLE I: THE BIBLE
We believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of all 66 books of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, and that they are inerrant in every part in the original text. We further believe that the Bible is the supreme authority in faith and life.
ARTICLE II: GOD — FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in one God, Who in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, and truth is an infinite, immutable Spirit. This God subsists in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; and these three are one in essence, equal in power and glory.
ARTICLE III: CREATION AND PROVIDENCE
We believe that all things were created by the direct act of God, and that He preserves and governs all His creatures and all their acts.
ARTICLE IV: THE FALL OF MAN
We believe that the first man sinned against God and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death. Thus all men are born with a sinful nature totally depraved in mind, will, and emotions. Consequently through his own ability he is unable to obtain salvation.
ARTICLE V: JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ, God the Son, was born through the power of God by the virgin Mary as the only Redeemer, and that Jesus Christ offered Himself a sacrifice for sin once for all. He was crucified on the cross and died as the Substitute for all those who believe in Him, He was buried, was raised from among the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven, is seated on the right hand of God, and intercedes for all those that God the Father has given Him.
ARTICLE VI: SALVATION
We believe that God has chosen certain ones to eternal life. The Holy Spirit causes these to recognize their sin and misery, awakens repentance and faith simultaneously, and leads them to accept Christ who finished the work of salvation. All those who believe in Him are justified through His blood.
ARTICLE VII: REGENERATION
We believe that all who are born by the Holy Spirit receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith and are made children of God. At that moment through the baptism of the Holy Spirit these are included in the body of Christ which is the Church of which He is the Head. The Holy Spirit indwells all who have been regenerated, teaches them the Word, and empowers them unto a godly life and service. Those who are thus regenerated must daily seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit. A life of godliness and service is the evidence of this filling.
ARTICLE VIII: THE CHURCH
We believe that the Church on earth is the congregation of believers who upon faith in the Gospel are baptized, keep a Holy Day of worship, observe the ordinances, follow all God’s teachings, and participate in all the privileges and blessings promised in Christ’s Word. Further, these follow Christ’s Great Commission to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. We believe that Christ as the Head of His Church, exercises His authority according to Scripture through the leadership of spiritual men in the church serving as Elders and Deacons.
ARTICLE IX: THE ORDINANCES OF BAPTISM AND THE LORD’S TABLE
We believe that baptism is administered to believers by immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Thus is portrayed the believer’s identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. Believers participate in the Lord’s Supper after receiving baptism and with self-examination. Bread and grape extract are used in remembering the sacrifice of Christ in giving His body and shedding His blood for us. The Lord’s Table is observed in anticipation of His coming again.
ARTICLE X: SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE
We believe that there must be a complete separation between church and state. No government or authority whatsoever has the right to bind the conscience of any person. As long as we do not violate the will of Christ the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, we are to pray for and obey the nation and government permitted by God.
ARTICLE XI: ANGELS
We believe that angels are created spirit-beings. The elect angels are empowered to worship God and minister His pleasure.
ARTICLE XII: SATAN AND DEMONS
We believe that Satan, a fallen angel, is the responsible agent of sin who opposes the work of Christ in the world. He is doomed to face certain eternal judgment along with demons (fallen angels) who are also working with him to thwart God’s purposes in the world.
ARTICLE XIII: MAN’S RESURRECTION
We believe in the resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous; the righteous to eternal salvation and blessing, and the unrighteous to destruction. The latter will consciously experience eternal punishment.
ARTICLE XIV: CHRISTIAN HOLINESS AND LIFE
We believe that since all believers are pilgrims and strangers in the earth with their citizenship in heaven, they are to separate themselves from worldly (drunkenness, revelry, etc.), paganistic practices and customs with unbelievers that are called Christianity, but are in reality false, unbiblical Christianity.
ARTICLE XV: LAST THINGS
We believe that our Lord and Savior Christ will come in body the second time with the purpose of calling to Himself believers and judging unbelievers.
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms...”
