When the Japanese Emperor passes away, or in this case, abdicates the throne, the name of the Japanese Era changes. For 31 years, it has been the Heisei (平成) Era. On April 1st, it was announced that the new era name will be Leiwa (令和) from May 1st… and it was no April Fool’s joke either. And on May 1st, the Emperor, who is only a figurehead like Queen Elizabeth and has no reigning power, will retire, and a new era will begin! Just three more days to Leiwa!
Good-bye, Heisei, and good morning, Leiwa!
( Note: Actually, it’s spelled “Reiwa,” but I wrote down “Leiwa” on purpose because it’s easier to pronounce. )
Sometime next week we are expecting a very strong typhoon. Quite a few typhoons have been hitting Japan lately. In a few more days, this typhoon is supposed to move at a faster speed than usual. These typhoons can be pretty nasty, as they cause a lot of damage, and there are many casualties recently. By God’s grace, the typhoons’ strong gusts of winds haven’t caused any serious damage towards us. But I will be praying that God will keep us safe from this oncoming typhoon.
Meanwhile, let’s see what’s cookin’ up with The Chronicles of N……..
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms...”
