‘Be Thou My Vision’ (From Lee Duigon’s Blog)

Please enjoy “Be Thou My Vision” — my favorite hymn!

Lee Duigon

Do you love old-fashioned hymns? They don’t get much more old-fashioned than this, from 8th-century Ireland–and still beautiful, still blessing us today. Be Thou My Vision, sung here by the Lebanon County Youth Chorus.

All right! It’s Q&A time!!!

What’s a soundtrack song you can’t help but sing along to?

The Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack song, “He’s a Pirate,” is, I think, quite cool!

What’s a song you love from a genre you don’t?

I don’t like horror (If that even is a music genre?? 🙂 ), but I love “Ghost Riders in the Sky”!! I like the ones by Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson (duet) and Christopher Lee (my favorite actor!).

What’s a song that makes you cry every time, without fail?

Like you, Keziah, I don’t cry when I listen to songs, but I am of course moved when I listen to Christian hymns and songs, especially “It is Well With My Soul.” Hymns are the world’s #1 important songs!!

What would be your theme song?

My theme song would be “Be Thou My Vision,” my favorite hymn.

What’s a song tied to a good memory?

A song that I liked when I was a youngster, a song that rang in the early mornings when I was living in a nostalgic neighborhood, was “Love is Blue” by Paul Mauriat. This song brought me to tears at that time. Every time I hear this song, I think about the ol’ neighborhood. I will never forget that neighborhood full of good memories.

If you’re a writer, what song best sums up your main character? If you don’t write…song for your favorite book’s main character?

“Be Thou My Vision” by Ron and Kelly best sums up one of the main characters from my favorite book, Bell Mountain, whose name is Jack. (Please click on the link, and it’s the 2nd song.)

What’s a song you always play on repeat?

“Are You Washed in the Blood of the Lamb / I’ll Fly Away” by Alan Jackson.

What’s the most convicting song you’ve heard?

“Our God is an Awesome God” by GLAD, my favorite Christian a cappella singing group.

What song reminds you most of your childhood?

I used to listen to Anthony Way a lot when I was a child, and the song he sings that I love is “The Lord’s Prayer.” (Please click on the link, and it’s the 2nd song.)

What’s your favorite song?

Wow. That’s a hard question! 🙂 There’s more than one answer, so I will make a list here: “Be Thou My Vision,” “El Condor Pasa,” “O Holy Night,” “We Three Kings,” “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”… and much more!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

What is one song that greatly exceeded your expectations?

Alan Jackson’s rendition of “Blessed Assurance” exceeded my expectations!

I will nominate this tag to…

Joah Gabriel, Lydia Potter, and Elisha McFarland!

Thanks again, Keziah! It was fun sharing my favorite songs!

‘Be Thou My Vision’ (Nathan Pacheco)

From Lee Duigon’s blog. ‘Be Thou My Vision’ is my favorite hymn.

Lee Duigon

I liked this rendition of the hymn so much, I played it twice–Be Thou My Vision, sung by Nathan Pacheco. When this hymn was first sung, Charlemagne was a little boy. An ancient Irish hymn, from the eighth century. Still very much loved today.
